“I love LA with a passion beyond reason...though it’s normally regarded as an unspeakable sprawling mess.”
On March 2nd, 1922, Reyner Banham was born – the British architecture critic who fell in love with L.A. and fortunately had the skills to write about it. Banham died in 1988, but if we'd needed further proof of his utter awesomeness, this BBC feature from 1972 is it. Check out the car he drives, the sunglasses he wears, the beard he has, and listen to the soundtrack when Banham takes us on a road trip through the cityscape of Los Angeles, including the Watts Towers, the Lovell House, and tons of mini-malls, drive-thrus, and strip clubs.
